Croatia is divided into two winegrowing regions: continental Croatia and coastal Croatia. The regions are further divided into twelve subregions. The winegrowing subregion Podunavlje is located in the easternmost part of the continental Croatia, and it's divided into three winegrowing regions: Srijem, Erdut i Baranja. The biggest winegrowing ares in Srijem are located in the area of Ilok, the easternmost town in Croatia. The best winegrowing positions in Srijem are located on the slopes of Fruška gora, on 80 to 200 m altitude. Winegrowing position Principovac, located on the western slopes of Fruška gora, is known for production of top quality wines. Fertilization in these areas has been done „by heart“ throughout history, without any soil analysis , so most likely an imbalance occured among the nutritions in the soil, which can cause physiological disturbances. Soil analysis found low supply of humus and nitrogen, medium to good phosphorus supplies, and good potassium and magnesium supplies.The goal of this greaduate thesis is to determin the real condition of chemical characteristics and nutririons status in the soil, to set a proper diagnosis and to design an optimal model for grapevine fertilization.
