In this thesis we have described the concept of autism, its history, diagnosis and symptoms indicating that disease. Particular attention was paid to the autistic child and his influence on the family, parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents. It is known that resulting tense causes serious consequences to their mental health. Autism has an unambiguous impact on the family and significantly changes the lifestyle of every member of the family. The main purpose of this paper is to determine which are the key factors in coping with an autistic child, as well as those negative factors and their impact on the family. We have used theories and lessons of other authors who have been researching and writing on this subject. Based on various studies, we have come to the conclusion that many negative factors such as stress, depression, and dissatisfaction in life and marriage appear in coping with an autistic patient. We also checked the importance of social support to parents of autistic children who proved to be of great importance. At the end of the thesis, we also mentioned the importance of co-operation between families and educational institutions as well as Autism awareness day on April 2nd, every year.
