In this paper is explained the technology of water jet cutting, in the beginning it’s about history, its origin and development, also there is going to be observed significant events in history that determined the direction of development for this technology. After pointing out of history there will be explained application areas of both water jet cutting and abrasive water jet cutting. For both of these types of cutting, water jet cutting and abrasive water jet cutting, are used the same components so further will be explained each of them and their mode of operation. Since the abrasive using has enabled spread and development of this technology in this paper there will be put up their types, shapes, usage, function, producing, using and for last disposal of waste. Also there has to be clear all the properties that abrasives have to suit so they could be used in operating this technology. Finally a review was made which shows how this technology works, which parameters are influential, how it achieves a requested quality and how those parameters influence the quality of the cut.
